Physical Education In accordance with our PE plan, each class receives 1 hour of P.E. each week. Our P.E. strands are made up of the six strands of the P.E. curriculum. and throughout the year we take part in games, athletics, gymnastics, dance, outdoor and adventure activities and aquatics. We think P.E. is a very important subject and we follow a school P.E. policy and timetable for teaching the various strands. Our updated P.E. plan incorporates the fundamental movement skills from the Move Well Move Often Resource Pack to promote Physical Literacy. Teachers use the Primary school curriculum as well as the PSSI lesson plans to plan their lessons.
Gymnastics We decided to prioritise the gymnastics strand as an area for improvement. We set aside the month of January as a staff where each class would receive 4 weeks of the Gymnastics strand. Each teacher received a copy of the PSSI lesson plans for planning. Ms Walsh who is experienced in gymnastics provided a tutorial to the whole staff during a Croke Park hour and went through some basic shapes, balance, rolls and creative sequencing as the IPPEA guidelines set out. She helped with our PE Audit of gymnastic equipment, we were satisfied with the equipment already in the school. Our activity bundle as agreed by the board of management has a strong focus on gymnastics. All classes will receive Yoga in term 2 for 6 weeks by a parent/yoga instructor. Kilbarry gymnastics instructor Tanya will take all classes for 6 weeks in term 3 also. See Photos
